How to stay motivated during your workout?
Getting motivated to work out can be a difficult feat. The problem is, there are two hurdles to overcome. The first problem is you need to find the motivation to start the workout, and second, sometimes you must find ways to motivate yourself to finish the workout. As the first step is hard enough, once you are in the middle or near the end of your workout, you may find yourself questioning whether this is worth it or if you can even make it to the end. If you do decide to keep going, you feel amazing, so proud and accomplished. However, if you do decide to give up before finishing your workout, you will likely feel ashamed, guilty, and disappointed in yourself. It’s important to remember that you shouldn’t be pushing your limits, but if you know deep down inside that you can make it to the end, you’ll thank yourself later to keep on pushing through.
#1 Don’t set unrealistic goals
Don’t set unrealistic goals and don’t overdo it. If you are setting unrealistic goals for yourself, you are prematurely setting yourself up for defeat. Set achievable goals that challenge you, but that don’t exhaust you or put you at risk for injury. Do a bit of research or speak to a personal trainer to make sure that you are following a healthy workout schedule and routine. Overdoing it will just eventually result in a burn out, and you will never end up reaching your fitness goals.
#2 Make sure you are following a routine
That being said, a workout routine is important. Once you have a good workout routine, make sure to follow it. If you have numbers, in terms of sets and reps, it will be less likely that you will quit before you are finished. Here is another tip, if you are counting and make it to your 5th rep, but the 10th or 15th rep seems too far away, try counting in 5’s… “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,” before you know it you are at 15 reps!
#3 Find a friend to work out with
Having a workout partner can do wonders. You’ll find that not only is it easier to make it to each and every workout, but it will be much easier to make it through each and every workout until the finish. Working out is much more fun with a partner and goes by much quicker. Having someone to keep you motivated is highly beneficial, and surprisingly enough, being responsible to keep someone else motivated will result in self-motivation as well.
#4 Take a group fitness class
A really great way to stay motivated is to take a fitness class. You’ll be surprised at how much easier it is to make it through a workout when you can let your mind relax and your body do the work. When you are engaging in your own workout routines you have to decide what move you are going to do next, for how long, and how much weight, etc., if you take that stress away and leave it to a professional and a class to lead you, you’ll find it is actually a huge relief.
