How to stay fit while pregnant
Many women worry immensely about what is going to happen to their bodies when they become pregnant. It is natural, and entirely okay for these thoughts to cross your mind. But you should rest assured and know that even though there will of course be some bodily changes, it doesn’t mean that it is impossible for you to stay in shape during your pregnancy, or to get back into shape after the amazing miracle of your child’s birth. With the incorporation of proper nutrition intake and consistent exercise, you can maintain staying in shape while pregnant.
Some women worry that working out might hurt the baby, or that their own bodies won’t be able to handle it. But the beautiful truth is, many women continue to work out throughout the majority of their pregnancy, and it definitely pays off in the end. Not only will continuing to exercise keep your body in shape, but it will also keep you feeling much better rather than if you quit exercising altogether. You may have to alter the intensity of your workouts, as well as the type of workouts that you engage in as your pregnancy progresses, but that doesn’t mean that you need to stop all together.
So, let’s talk about a few nutrition and exercise tips to help you stay in shape during your pregnancy…
#1 Stay away from unnatural sugar and unhealthy carbs
We know it’s much more difficult to stay disciplined while you are pregnant, as there are much different and much more intense cravings that your body may go through. You also are going to be eating for two as well, and craving energy. After all, you are creating a human! Sometimes when we lack energy, we want to reach for something sugary or high in carbs, but if you’re resting more and not burning off the unnecessary intake of processed sugars and carbs, they will remain in your body, but as fat.
If you are craving sugar, try making a healthy smoothie with fresh fruit to mix the cravings. As an important note, don’t overdo it on the fruit. Even though fruits consist of natural sugars, consuming too much without burning it will have the same negative effect on your fat stores. Try and keep your diet balanced with foods that are protein full and vitamin full. And don’t be afraid of eating foods that have fat! Fat in your food can be good for you and your baby, and contrary to belief, fat isn’t the villain. Also, always remember to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. If you are exercising, it is even more important to stay hydrated.
#2 Find exercises that you enjoy
Many pregnant women suffer from lethargy and sleepiness, which makes it even harder for them to convince themselves to go to the gym. But if you find exercises and workouts that you enjoy, you will be more likely to stay committed to your workout regimen throughout your pregnancy.
#3 Find a workout buddy, or take workout classes
Having a workout buddy is one of the best ways to stay committed to a consistent workout routine. Not only do you have someone there to keep you accountable, and vice versa, but it’s always nicer to share an experience with someone. Whether it be the difficult parts, or the fun parts, company is beneficial. And if you are able to find a workout buddy or not, taking up workout classes is an amazing way to make sure you stay committed. When there is a set schedule and time for your workout class, you are much more likely to go through with it. Many pregnant women take up yoga classes in Arlington while they are pregnant, as the intensity levels are right for their bodies, as well as modifiable depending on how far along they are.
