New Year, New Fitness Goals

Every December, millions of people set aside a list of new year’s resolutions. A very meniscal amount of people actually stick to those resolutions for more than a week. The problem is that people fail to make resolutions that are obtainable and sustainable. There are, however, ways to actually keep those new year’s resolutions, but it all starts with the resolutions themselves. Here are some ideas for obtainable new year’s fitness goals as well as ways to keep them.

Your New Year’s Resolutions for 2019:

  1. Eat more fresh food
Fresh and raw food is hands down the best for you. This goes for fresh veggies and fruits, which are jam-packed with the vitamins and nutrients that your body craves. Try and transfer 1 to 2 of your meals each day for something fresh and raw. It doesn’t just have to be an apple or a salad that you eat for your fresh & raw meal or snack, you can spice things up with healthy, energy-boosting, raw smoothies and shakes.
  2. Eat a more balanced diet
A large number of people fail in their health goals because they don’t eat a balanced-enough diet. Incorporate veggies, fruits, grains, proteins, and nuts and legumes in healthy and balanced portions to help you meet your health and fitness goals.
  3. Drink more water
Your body craves water, even when you aren’t thirsty. You can drink more water by carrying around a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go and by substituting water for other drinks such as diet sodas and juices. Remember that alcohol and coffee are diuretics and more water must be consumed with them in order to avoid dehydration.
  4. Exercise regularly
You should be getting a moderate level of exercise every day for about 30 minutes. Even if you aren’t able to make it to the gym, go for a fast-paced walk to get your blood flowing. As for your intermediate to difficult workouts, you should try for 3 times a week.
  5. Eat less sugar
Processed sugar, plain and simple, isn’t good for you. While it can be enjoyed in small amounts you should try and cut it out of your diet as much as you can. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a piece of cake or pie now and then, it is still important to enjoy foods that make you happy. Eliminate sugar intake by cutting out sugary drinks like soda, juices, and cocktails, as well as snacking on candy, etc. Remember that many sugars are hidden, such as in dried fruits with added sugar, so be on the lookout when you head to the grocery store.

How to Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions for 2019:

  1. Do what you enjoy
Find workouts that you enjoy, try hiking, biking, and even dancing.
  2. Treat yourself
Don’t completely eliminate the foods and drinks you love. Allow yourself to have a cheat meal every now and then.
  3. Cut down your portions
Portion size is a hidden enemy for many people who are trying to lose weight. Try eating smaller portions, or at least monitoring your portions in order to obtain your fat loss goals.
  4. Set out a schedule
Set achievable goals for your fitness journey. Set out a schedule that will be ideal for your lifestyle and follow it, remember to take it one day at a time.
  5. Find a workout buddy
Having a workout partner will help you immensely in keeping your fitness goals. Having someone to help motivate you and vice versa is a great way to keep up with your health and fitness resolutions.
